TL;DR
Three ways to deposit on Polymarket: debit card via MoonPay (instant, ~3% fee, $20 minimum), Coinbase transfer on Polygon (~$1, 2 min), or bridge from Ethereum/Base. Always confirm the network is Polygon — sending USDC on the wrong network is the #1 way new users lose funds.

Polymarket only accepts USDC

Unlike Kalshi (which takes ACH dollars directly), Polymarket runs on the Polygon blockchain and settles every trade in USDC — a stablecoin worth exactly $1. Funding the account means getting USDC onto Polygon and into your Polymarket wallet. See Polymarket vs Kalshi if you'd rather skip the crypto step.

Three paths, ranked by ease:

Option 1 — Debit card (easiest, ~3% fee)

Inside Polymarket, click Deposit → Buy with card. MoonPay handles the conversion: your card is charged in USD, and USDC lands in your Polymarket wallet within 60 seconds. Fee: ~3% (it's baked into the rate). Minimum $20.

Best for: first-time users, deposits under $500, anyone who values speed over saving a few bucks.

Option 2 — Coinbase transfer (cheapest, ~$1 fee)

Buy USDC on Coinbase (free with bank transfer, ~1.5% with debit card). Then withdraw USDC, selecting Polygon as the network. Paste your Polymarket deposit address. Withdrawal fee: ~$0.50–$1. Arrives in 2–5 minutes.

Always double-check the network is Polygon, not Ethereum. Sending USDC on the wrong network is the single most common way new users lose funds.

Option 3 — Bridge from Ethereum or Base

If you already hold USDC on Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Base, use a bridge like Polygon's official bridge or Across to move it to Polygon. Cost: $0.50–$5 depending on Ethereum gas. Speed: 5–15 minutes.

Only worth it if you're already a crypto user with funds on another chain — otherwise stick with Option 1 or 2.

After it arrives

Your USDC balance shows up in the top right of polymarket.com within minutes. You can now place trades. Ready? See the full Polymarket tutorial.

Frequently asked questions

What's the minimum deposit on Polymarket?

$20 via MoonPay debit card. There's no enforced minimum if you transfer USDC in from another wallet or exchange.

Why do I need USDC instead of dollars?

Polymarket settles every trade on the Polygon blockchain. USDC is the dollar-pegged stablecoin used for collateral and payouts.

How long does a Polymarket deposit take?

MoonPay card: 60 seconds. Coinbase transfer on Polygon: 2–5 minutes. Cross-chain bridge: 5–15 minutes.

What happens if I send USDC on the wrong network?

Funds sent on Ethereum mainnet to a Polygon address are usually recoverable by Coinbase support, but funds sent to a self-custody address on the wrong chain may be permanently lost. Always confirm Polygon before clicking send.

Can I deposit with PayPal or Apple Pay?

Not directly. MoonPay supports debit/credit cards and Apple Pay in some regions; otherwise transfer USDC from Coinbase, which supports PayPal-funded buys.
